York Open Studios: one of the highlights of York’s visual arts calendar

http://www.yorkopenstudios.co.uk/

April 16th - 18th sees the ninth annual York Open Studios weekend, when many of York’s best creative practitioners open their doors and invite the public to enter their working world.

Artists will be showing their latest work in studios, homes, schools and community centres, and with fifty participants this much anticipated event will be the best yet, offering an exciting opportunity to talk to the artists and to see how and where they work.

As always there will be a wide variety of work on offer to buy – paintings, prints, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, artists books, furniture, photography, sculpture and more.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO NEIL THE VERGER FOR RIGGING UP SOME SUPERB LIGHTING IN WHAT IS AN ENORMOUS SPACE, TO JOHN THE VERGER FOR HELPING OUT WITH SALES AND ESPECIALLY TO CAROL FOR HELPING OUT ON OUR PRIVATE VIEW EVENING.

This is the amazing view of Beverley Minster's rare pipe organ taken through the boss aperture at the top of the central tower. A very big thank you to Carol Parkinson for organizing this and especially to the Minster Plumber/Glazier Steve Rial for taking me up into the workshop at the top of the tower. BBC Look North reporter Linsey Smith came along to interview us both, and it was broadcast on the same day in the Yorkshire Lincolnshire region. The image will be added to the Minster's archive and I will include it in my new book "Beautiful Yorkshire" which is due to be published in July 2008.

I will be running two special exhibition one day digital photography workshops on Saturday 19th April and Saturday 3rd may. These will start with a couple of hours photography inside the Minster followed by Landscape Photography for the rest of the day. Transport and lunch is not included and the cost will be £75 per person with a maximum of five places.
