

Whether its the Yorkshire Dales, The North York Moors, the stunning Yorkshire coast, the Lake District, Northumberland or Scotland, work alongside John and share his passion for landscape photography. John has an intimate knowledge of these regions throughout the seasons, and will take you to several scenic locations where you will receive his individual attention. Most workshops involve walking a few miles.

In the winter when the days are very short workshops typically start at first light, and usually run until the sun goes down.
In the summer, depending on the location/area, a workshop will start at around 10.00AM and run through until sun down.
If John is working from his mobile home (Fiat Trigano Tribute) then he is able to provide some basic Photoshop tuition using his laptop and flat screen within the van if requested, though most of the day is spent working in the field.
DATES: Throughout 2012 Weekends and Mid-Week days are available.
TIMES: Start times to be arranged according to the season, and usually stay out until the sun sets.
MEET: At a pre-arranged starting point, from where transport can be provided for UP TO FOUR PEOPLE if John is working from his 4 x 4.

This two day workshop will have a maximum of three photographers.
It will run from 1.00PM Thursday 1stth November to Mid-day Saturday 3rd November.
It will include a sunset shoot on the Thursday and Friday and a sunrise shoot on the Friday and Saturday.
I am limiting this first workshop on the Island to just three people so that I have ample time to work with each person.
Clients will have to organise their own accommodation well in advance.

2012 - ONE DAY DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS on the NORTH YORK MOORS RAILWAY - £95
These one day workshops are ideal for those wishing to learn to use their digital cameras more creatively, whilst photographing trains, stations, villages and landscapes along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. 2012 - DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES based at Dutch house Crayke
COST: £75
THESE SMALL GROUP WORKSHOPS ARE IDEAL FOR BOTH BEGINNERS AND IMPROVERS
John will be running a series of one day beginners courses at Dutch house, Crayke, near Easingwold in North Yorkshire during 2012. These new beginners courses are aimed primarily at those people who are keen to learn the secrets of creative landscape and macro photography, and to develop their knowledge and skills in using their digital camera.
The courses are limited to six photographers and includes tea/coffee on arrival at 1.00pm, afternoon tea/light meal at 4.30pm, and 5 of John’s blank greeting card range. The cost is £75 per person, and does not include personal or equipment insurance. We will spend the afternoon at Dutch house, and then after tea drive up to Sutton Bank to work in the field, and hopefully, shoot a nice sunset at the end of the day.
A short walk of around 1 - 2 miles from the visitor centre will be involved and its recommended that people bring tripods. John will show some of his published work, some of his exhibition prints, and spend some time projecting images and demonstrating basic image manipulation and editing using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. There will be opportunities to take photographs in the lovely garden at Dutch house, as well as macro/still life photographs inside the studio.

2012 - ONE DAY SMALL GROUP BEGINNERS COURSES IN YORK
COST: £95
THESE SMALL GROUP WORKSHOPS ARE IDEAL FOR BOTH BEGINNERS AND IMPROVERS .
The course is primarily suited to those wishing to explore and develop their understanding and application of the creative functions of their digital cameras, to improve their location/landscape photographic technique, and to develop an eye for composition.
The course is ideal for digital SLR users though bridge cameras will also be fine, and clients would benefit enormously if they can bring their own tripods.
These courses will start at 9.45 and finish at 5.30.
We will meet at the City Art Gallery in Exhibition Square, YO1 7EW, and the course fee of £95 includes coffee/tea on arrival, free entry to York Minster, and 5 blank greeting cards from John's range.
John will run through camera set up including ISO settings, best aperture settings for depth of field, focusing technique etc, white balance settings. As the course progresses he will also demonstrate the use of tripod, cable release, filters etc. all of which enable him to create great images. Location finding, composition, controlling exposure, white balance settings and many more aspects of landscape and commercial photography are all covered in abundance throughout the day.
York is brimming with fantastic locations and architecture which provide a feast of photographic opportunities, where you will photograph St Mary's Abbey and Gardens, York Minster, the bar walls and riverside.
At around 1.00PM we will break for a light lunch where John will spend 1 - 1 1/2 hours demonstrating some basic image manipulation techniques using Photoshop Elements 9.
The course is limited to 5 photographers so that John can spend enough quality time with each person.

The price includes 5 assorted blank greeting cards from John's range plus some useful instruction/data sheets from his digital photography night school classes. These small group workshops have a maximum of five photographers, and the cost does not usually include transport to locations and lunch. If I am working from my 4 x 4 I can provide transport for up to four clients. Clients will need to organize their own accommodation, as well as personal and equipment insurance.

Viewfinder Digital Photography holidays are based in the beautiful historic city of York.
We will meet on the evening of your arrival and discuss the workshop and some basic landscape photography techniques. I will show you some exhibition prints and other examples of published images. You may bring along your own prints for analysis and feedback. The two day workshop can be tailored to suit your particular needs and interests so this is a good opportunity to discuss these.
DAY ONE: Consists of the whole day spent in one of the nearby National Parks, and/or the Yorkshire Coast.Transport is provided.
DAY TWO: On the second morning we will explore the city of York with our cameras visiting locations such as York Minster, Museum Gardens and The Shambles etc. We then break for lunch.
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to download your images. If you are new to digital imaging I can introduce you to Photoshop Elements 9 using a Windows platform and/or Photoshop CS4 using an iMac system. You will be shown some basic manipulation techniques to improve and enhance your images.
For more experienced photographers I will show you how you can transform those good photos into competition winning and/or exhibition quality images.
Mount cutting is an additional option to be covered should clients wish to include this.
These TWO DAY courses are available weekends or mid-week and are exclusively for one-to-one, or SMALL GROUPS OF UP TO FOUR PHOTOGRAPHERS.
This does not include accommodation which will have to be arranged by you.
In the first instance contact me with some preferred dates, and once we have agreed these I'll mail you booking and information forms. A £100 deposit will be required when returning the form, and the balance should be paid no less than 30 days before the weekend.

These one and two day workshops are based in the picturesque village of Aysgarth, in the heart of Wensleydale. Aysgarth is famous for its spectacular series of waterfalls that cascade down a series of large limestone steps carved out by the river Ure on its descent to mid-Wensleydale. There are many well signed woodland walks offering spectacular views of the falls and river, and in spring the area is adorned with wild flowers.
These workshops combine both technical and creative aspects of landscape photography, where clients are encouraged to develop an eye for creating landscape images whilst learning how to use their camera to its full potential. Transport can be provided for up to four people.
Cornlee Guest House is a charming Victorian property built from traditional Yorkshire stone, located at the eastern end of Aysgarth overlooking the village green. Cornlee offers high quality accommodation with three letting rooms. Room 1 is a spacious double en-suite room with views across the village green, Room 2 is a delightful sunny double en-suite room with south facing aspect and views to the fells beyond. Room 3 is a twin bedded room overlooking our courtyard garden and has private facilities including a bath, shower and separate wc.
